When there are topics that are up for a shareholder vote, all shareholders should receive proxy instructions and a proxy voting card or Voting Instruction Form (VIF) either via US postal mail or email. Companies may also make proxy materials available online, usually on the investor relations page of their website.

And, of course, if you attend a shareholder meeting, you can always submit your vote live and in-person. To check on the status of any proxy votes that may be brought up at future shareholder meetings, contact the investor relations department at the company or funds in which you own shares.
